Workshop - Dealing with Difficult People

Ever had a “difficult” caller?  One that seems to instinctively know how to push your buttons?  Someone who feels anger will get them further?  This workshop will give you tools to better interact with these callers in a manner that lessens the impact on your blood pressure.

  4:30 p.m. – 5:00  p.m. Workshop - Helping Callers with Mental Health Symptoms

This brief workshop will touch on trainings available for helping callers that are experiencing mental health symptoms or a crisis.

Be prepared to share a highlight of the past year that or newly discovered best practice that other I&R/As could learn from.  You’ll walk away with lots of good ideas!
  9:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Workshop - Road Maps to Resources: Creating Effective Community Directories

I&R referrals are often given by phone but some clients, case managers, and agency staff find printed directories and quick resource guides to be helpful tools.  Participants will discuss the pros and cons of printed resource lists, how to identify target audiences, and how to produce and pay for them.  A number of examples that use a variety of formats will be shown.

  10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Workshop - Laughter Yoga

Aging requires us to make critical attitudinal choices. We can choose to approach it either with a sense of loss, sadness, depression or with anticipation, a positive outlook on life and a sense of well-being. This presentation focuses on the therapeutic benefits of exercising laughter. An overview of laughter therapy/yoga groups, results from research will be presented. Followed with a Laughter Group session, which provides light to moderate exercise an attitude boost.
